Plan your future

I've just received a phone call from a friend this evening. After chit-chat from a couple of minutes, then he started to talk about dream. I'm so excited when he talked about this topic. This means that he want to start to plan his future and I'm so happy for him. As I believe that we must always plan our future. Our future is in our hands. We can't say that,"Ok lah.. No need to plan, just wait and see what will happen next in my life." THAT IS SO WRONG!!! As Dr. Ernest teach me,"If you failed to plan, you plan to fail" So you must plan everything in your life. It's a must! But some people might say,"You are to aggressive. You can't plan your future. You must see the reality. Your dreams are to big. It might be failed and blablablablabla...."

In my friend case, he said that he's a lil bit confused about his future. Still dunno where to bring his life next after he finished his undergraduate. I believe it happens to some of us too, INCLUDING ME. There's a time that I become confused about my future after I finished my undergraduate. But thank you to Ernest who helps me to find out what should I do next. So when my friend said that he still confused about his future, I tried to share my experience to him. I talk about my future plan and how I plan it. I thought maybe it could help him to solve his problem. It's a nice thing right if you and your friend could succed together in the future, especially if this is your bestfriend and you care for him a lot. But then, yeah, it's up to him whether he want to listen or he just said,"I confused. No need to think about it now. We still have time right? Maybe something good will happen to me in the future" Listen! Once you delay to plan your future, you will always delay to plan it forever. But back again, it's your life my friend, it's you who have to decide it.

In my opinion, it's very hard to decide what do you want next in your life. It seems that there's a haze covering your future and you can't see it. Sometimes for me, I'm a lil bit affraid to decide what should I do in the future. Sometimes I just affraid that my dreams are too high and I couldn't reach it. I'm affraid to plan my life and set my goals because I still don't know how to make my dream comes true. But hey!! Actually it's your dream right?? You can plan it like whatever you want. By planning your future, at least you are one step ahead than the other people who don't plan their future. Then the next job after you plan it, it's time for you to find out how to realize all your dreams and do it step by step until you reach your dream. It always takes some little steps to reach your dream. You can't just take a big jump to reach the top.

You are your thought
change your thoughts and
you change your life
Everything is created twice
first in the mind
You are living the life
you created in the past
You are creating the life
that you will live

Padang Workshop

During this holiday, I join an international workshop that held by mAAN (Modern Asian Architect Network). The purpose to this project is to revitalize the old Cement Padang factory to become a museum.

Day 1
Wake up early in the morning then go to the airport around 8am. My flight is around 9.30am. Arrive in Padang around 11am then go to Indarung for the next 1 hour. Reach the place and eat lunch. As we guess before, all the food are spicy and use coconut milk. That’s the food that we are going to eat for the next 10 days. Hahaha...
Look around the complex and then go to my guest house. There’re 6 guest house and I stay in guest house number 4. Stay in room number 3 with Ami, Suri (a friend from same uni with me) and 1 Japanese girl name Ayaka. Alpen stay in the next guest house, guest house number 3.
Have an informal opening dinner at night and there’s a presentation about the project.

Day 2
First morning in Padang. Eat breakfast on the restaurant (around 5 minutes walking from guest house) then go to the gallery to start our work. Must take a bus to go to the gallery. It’s quite far, around 10 minutes by bus from restaurant. The gallery is an old warehouse next to the factory site that have already turned up into our working area.
First thing after reach that place, have morning lecture from a China lecturer. Quite good until then he ask the boys to make 3 lines on the back site of the gallery. They are asked to bend their knee and close their eyes for the next 15 minutes. Oh my!!! He ask the students to do tai-chi. Hahaha... What a nice way to start the workshop. Haha..
In the afternoon go to the factory site to look around. So many place with yellow lines that we can pass it. The reason is because the structure is already old and become dangerous for us or other reason like the place is quite spooky. Hiaaaaa.... Then eat lunch from a lunch box that make me an expert lunch box eatter for the next 10 days. Haha.. Continue with 4 other lectures and then have formal opening dinner at night. So many enternainment tonight. Every country bring one entertainment. Piring Dance from Indonesia, the Japanese sing Doraemon, the Indian sing Kuch Kuch Hota He and so many other thing. Haha..

Day 3
Today I have unit presentation from 12 unit masters. The presentate their idea to revitalize the museum then we choose which unit master that we want to join. I choose Mr. Tsuto Sakamoto. He is a lecturer from NUS, Singapore. I like his crazy idea about making the museum just like the real factory. Can’t say the idea here. Haha.. Must keep it as a secret because they will publish a book about the workshop after this. Hehe..In that group, I work with other students, Rezky from ITB, Kelly from Pelita Harapan Univ., Alina from Taylor’s College Malaysia, Priyam from India, Faza from Brawijaya Univ., Galuh from Soegiopranata Univ, and Ardi from Bung Hatta Univ. The Malaysian girl named Alina become my partner during this workshop.

The two Japanese girl, Ayaka and Moe, teach how to make origami

Day 4
Not much to do today beside make sketch, sketch and sketch. Mr. Tsuto will leave us today. He must go to Korea and promise that he will back in a couple days.

Day 5
Today we will have our 1st presentation. What I do today is making model in 1:100 scale. Quite complicated since the scale is soo small. Hiaaaa... The presentation start at 5pm, then cut for dinner time at 7pm then continue again at 8pm. My group presentation is so-so, not good but not bad. Ok lah for our 1st presentation.

Day 6
REFRESHING DAY!!!
After 3 whole days stress out by work then it’s time for refreshing today. Go to Sawah Lunto to see coal mine. It take 2 hours trip by bus from Indarung. At Sawah Lunto, we can go inside the tunnel to see the old coal mine that now open for public. It’s kind of creepy inside the tunnel. You must wear safety helmet and safety shoes. You must go down by slippery staircase and there’s water that keep dropping above your head. Not enough oxigen inside the tunnel so every tour maximum only 25 people. Along the way we walk inside the tunnel, the guide keep talking about ghost story inside the coal mine. Damn!! I hate it. Could you please tell us something else??? Like the history of that place maybe?? I’m scared to death and keep holding Alpen’s hand along the way.
In the afternoon, we meet the Mayor of Sawah Lunto and have lunch together with him. What an honour!
The journey continue to Danau Singkarak (Singkarak Lake). Arrive there around 4pm. Alpen just shake my shoulder and say that we arrive at some place just like sea. Whoaaa... So happy to see the scenery. We keep thinking that we are going to the sea. But, hey?! How come there’s a sea inside the city?? Hmm... Then look around. There’s so many mountains around that place. Could it be a sea??? But there’s wave there. Get confused for a moment then try to ask local student. Guess what?? They said that it’s not sea but lake. Hahaha... Where should I know about that?!
From the lake then we go to Padang Panjang to eat the famous sate Padang for dinner. Yummyyyyy!!!

Day 7
Back to work. Today me and my group we take a tour around the factory to plan our project and what we are going to do with the factory. A very hot day to take a tour and it makes me got sun burn. My skin become a little dark now. Hixxx... We bring the factory’s siteplan and take a tour. There’s some funny story when we are touring the site. After we reach the site, Ibu Susan asked,”Where are we now?” Then everybody point out their finger on the siteplan and said,”We are here!!” but the funny part that everybody point at different place. Aiyooooo.... Then we start our conversation about the design. We want to make a sky walk in 2 layers. The bottom layer will covered by the upper layer and the upper layer just open to the sky without any roof. Then Priyam asked a question that followed by a huge screaming and laugh from the whole group members. He asked,”Hey, how if the WINTER comes? People can’t walk on the upper layer right?” Then everybody just scream,”THIS IS TROPICAL COUNTRY PRIYAM! NO WINTER HERE!!” Hahaha...

Day 8
Mr. Tsuto is back!!! Yayyy!!! But he’s not really happy with our project. Uh ohhh... He said that it’s not like what he want us to do. Kind of sad that we are dissapointed him. But still, with his kindness, then he just ask us to continue our project using our way and help us with everything that he could help. Today me, Alina, Kelly and Priyam, we make models on the factory site and fyi it’s near the spooky site. Hiaaa...

Day 9
Last day!!! WORK HARD!!!
Stress all day. Everyone just keep quite. Even Priyam is quite. So strange. Wewww!!!
Me my self, I’m making glass tube model between the kiln. So today must stay at the gallery for the whole night. In the evening we go back to the guest house to take a bath as a preparing to stay up late, then go back again to gallery. Everybody stay up late except Priyam. He go back to the guest house with Mr. Tsuto and Ibu Susan. Very tired I think. Work till 4.30am. Can’t stand anymore then decided to sleep. Make my own bad by using 8 chairs. Haha.. Wake up around 6am and finishing my model. Continue to Day 10th...

Day 10
PRESENTATION DAY!!!
All back to the guest house by 8am then SLEEP!! Haha.. In the morning, only Priyam, Mr. Tsuto and Ibu Susan that go back to the gallery. Then here’s a very touching story happen. Mr. Tsuto and Ibu Susan know that we just back to the guest house in the morning and we are so tired. So they help us, even without we ask for a help from them. Ibu Susan help us to print all the drawing and pictures and Mr. Tsuto help us to take picture of our model. Huaaa... They are so kind and really nice to their student. They are so different than other master unit. Yesterday, they are the only master unit who stay up late to accompany their student. The other master unit already went back to the guest house even before midnight. Mr. Tsuto and Ibu Susan care about their students too. Like yesterday, the weather was so windy, so I use my jacket hat. Maybe it’s so strange or something else but then Mr. Tsuto asked me,”Lindy, are you alright?” And they always ask me and my group like 1 time per hour,”Guys, are you Ok? How’s the work? Already finished? Are you eating yet?” Whoaaa... I’m so lucky to have them as my unit masters.
In the afternoon, presentation time!!! Must presentate our group idea infront of many great architect from all over Asia, President of IAI (Ikatan Arsitektur Indonesia), mAAN members, and important people from factory. So scared because after the presentation they will give us some questions or comments. Hiaa.. Thanks God that our presentation is quite good. On the question and answer session, Mr. Widodo from NUS ask us a tricky question that our idea just can be understood by few people because it’s not a normal idea and suddently Mr. Tsuto who sit beside him and actually from NUS too is just like ask back “Why can’t?? Why??” Haha.. So funny to see that and so happy that he still care for us till presentation. Actually unit master can’t say a word and give some help when their student presentate the idea. Haha..
At night, there are closing dinner. Everybody dress up so nicely. Even Priyam use kurta, a traditional clothes from India. Haha..

MJ, new friend from Malay.

Day 11
Wake up around 8am and find out that there’s local flood inside my guest house. Haiyaaa... How come lah??? Then do packing and now it’s time to say good bye to Padang and all my new friends. Back to Jakarta on 11.50am. Sit beside Ella and sleep all the way to Jakarta. Wake up when the plane tire hit the land when it’s landing. Go to terminal 3 to eat lunch and then go home. Take a rest. Haha... Tomorrow will go around Jakarta with Alpen, Ami, Steffi, Ella, Priyam, etc etc. Hahaha.. The Indian students still stay in Indon for the next 5 days. Yayyy!!!

Funny story from the workshop. I know that a lot of people from so many place in Asia like Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, India, Taiwan, China, and Singapore and we are all mixed up there. But dunno some how there’s a time that a Japanese girl thought that I’m Korean and she still could not believe when I said that I’m from Indonesia. Then one morning there’s an Indonesian boy offering me a seat in the bus in English. I thought that he tried to speak English with everybody but then he talk in Indonesia with his friend. Aiyooo... Then on the closing dinner, we played a Padang’s game. It’s just like bingo but the entertainer sing and say the number in the same time. I won that game with some other people. So we queue up in front of the entertainer to get the prize. He asked “Where are you come from?” question to every winner and he keep changing the language from Indonesia to English depending on the winner. Then as you guess before, this person ask me in English. Haha.. He quite surprise when I said I come from Jakarta. Weww!!! Is my face not Indonesian enough??? Haizzz...

Lindy
